--------------------------------------------- PLANET ANOMALY ALERT 2006 #8 (issued 9-Jul, 07:00 UT) --------------------------------------------- High magnification in OGLE 2006-BLG-359 Dear Colleagues, PLANET data collected tonight with the Danish 1.54m telescope at ESO LaSilla (Chile) indicate that this event is approximately 2.5 magnitudes brighter than it was 2.5 days ago and over the last few hours has risen at the rate of approximately 1.5 mag per day. There are two possible reasons we identify for this behaviour. Either a caustic crossing is currently in progress or alternatively the lightcurve can be described as a heavily-blended PSPL event, currently at magnification 60, with a peak magnification Amax = 465 predicted to occur at HJD = 2453926.5 (approximately 17 hours from now). Further observations are encouraged and we will issue an update to this alert when we know more. A light curve plot as well as data will soon be available on our webpages. Event: OGLE 2006-BLG-359 RA (J2000): 18:01:30.83 Dec (J2000): -28:01:12.1 The baseline I magnitude reported by the OGLE team is 19.3.
